| Dieting Tips for Christmas |
|
If you’ve been doing well with your diet and have been losing some weight, you’re probably feeling good, have more confidence and are looking forward to shopping expeditions. However, there’s nothing like a celebration or a holiday to put a dampener on all that hard work and perseverance. Christmas can be particularly difficult times for dieters. This occasion is often a great excuse for a party and maybe a big family get-together. One of the highlights of any holiday celebration is the food. There’s always lots of it and usually plenty of things that are generally forbidden if you’re trying to follow a diet and lose weight. However, don’t despair – there are plenty of ways that you can stick to your diet over the holiday season and still enjoy yourself. Everyone needs a little treat every now and again and this includes people on a diet. You just need to limit the treats and try not to overindulge and get carried away with the party atmosphere. Whilst it’s easy to think that just one more cake won’t do any harm, you’ll be undoing all your good work and will have to start over again once the holiday finishes. All it takes is a little will power and you can stick to your diet and allow yourself a little festive goodie or two. There are plenty of simple things you can do such as decline rich sauces with meals, and desserts. It would also be wise to avoid chips, dips and other snack foods that are high in fat. Rather than feeling left out, prepare a big bowl of crudités (chopped raw vegetables) and serve these alongside other snacks. You can serve them with some low fat natural yogurt, flavored with lemon and mint. Likewise, if gooey cakes or rich pies are on the menu for dessert, plan an alternative pudding of fresh fruit salad and serve this with some frozen yogurt. When it comes to drinks, you can allow yourself a little glass of something but opt for reduced calorie mixers and soft drinks, or fruit juice. Chocolate and sweets are usually in abundance over any holiday period and this could be difficult for dieters. It’s very easy for one chocolate to lead swiftly to another and another. If possible, try not to have any. Instead, snack on dried fruit and nuts, or breadsticks. At the end of the day, if you have plenty of willpower and a ready supply of healthy foods, you should sail through the holiday season with your diet plans intact. |
