Top Tips for Sticking to your Diet

When it comes to sticking to a diet you need plenty of will power. It’s very easy to lose heart halfway through and let all that good work slide away as the pounds pile back on again. However, if you persevere the effort will soon begin to pay off as you lose weight and start to feel more positive about your body. Successful dieting takes time and although you might have one or two slip-ups when you tuck into an illicit bar of chocolate or a bag of fries, the important thing is to move on and carry on. The odd treat won’t have too much of a negative impact on your overall diet but if you give up completely then you will never achieve your dream of weight loss.

There are plenty of ways in which to keep yourself motivated to carry on with your diet. Here are a few quick ideas:

Don’t Buy Treats

It sounds simple enough but if you do the shopping for the whole household, it’s sometimes difficult to avoid popping a few snacks and treats in the trolley for other members of your family. You need to get the family on your side – if they want chocolate they’ll have to buy it themselves and preferably not eat it in front of you!

Reward the Weight Loss
Set yourself manageable goals and reward yourself when you reach them. A new top, a manicure or a massage are ideas for little treats that could help to keep you focused.

Meal Plans
Write a meal plan for the week then shop for these meals and stick to the plan. That way you know exactly what you’re cooking every night, you know you have all the ingredients you need and there’s no excuse for dialing that take-out number.

A Friend in Need
If you have friends who are also dieting, swap tips and advice and always be on standby for each other if you have a shaky moment and feel like ditching the diet. It’s also good to do lunches with a fellow dieter – you won’t be tempted to order that chocolate muffin if you’re both being good.

Small Steps
Don’t be too hard on yourself. Make realistic goals and then you have more chance of reaching them and feeling successful. If you aim to lose too much weight in too short a time you will only feel like you’ve failed.
